YouthAstroNet is an educational program of the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian (CfA) that connects CfA scientists and resources with schools and students across the country. Through YouthAstroNet, students can use remote MicroObservatory Telescopes to capture images of night sky objects. With the help of their teachers and CfA staff, students can analyze and interpret these images just as astronomers do. They can also use image processing tools to create astrophotographs that highlight certain astrophysical phenomena or to express the wonder and beauty of the heavens. Through capstone projects, students can also take their study beyond the classroom to answer particular research questions they have or to present their findings to a wider audience.
YouthAstroNet also provides training and resources to teachers so that they can mentor students and enhance their interest in STEM fields.
